Cruise in Mauritius - Islands Adventure
Description
Islands Adventure
Discover the waterfalls of Grand River South East. The macaques may welcome you very loudly ! Discover l’Ile Aux Aigrettes, a small (27 ha) island situated inside the Mahebourg Bay, about 850m off the south-east coast of Mauritius. It is made up of coralline limestone and is home to the last remnants of dry coastal forest, once found around most of Mauritius. Declared a nature reserve since 1965, intense conservation efforts have resulted in the restoration of the forest and reintroduction of rare species that had long since disappeared from the island (the rare pink pigeon, giant tortoises and various species of birds and reptiles). Situated a few kilometres from Ile Aux Aigrettes, Ile au Phare has on its topmost point the ruined lighthouse from which it derives its name. The island has been the outpost of maritime surveillance in the bay of Grand Port. Its fortifications have witnessed battles for the possession of Mauritius during the Dutch and French colonial rules. Please wear shoes as the island is very rocky. Parasailing and undersea walk will be waiting for you at the platform for your next stop. There’s nothing more exotic than to relax on a white sandy beach at Ile Aux Cerfs and enjoy a tasteful BBQ lunch (chicken / fish / salads - drinks included)
